TCM Dermatology
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Dermatology treats the same conditions a conventional dermatologist treats. Instead of pharmaceuticals, TCM herbal medicine is a time-tested and holistic medicine. TCM dermatology treats both the symptoms and the root condition all the way to resolution.

Our process involves:
INTAKE EXAM - In person - We review your health condition history and conduct a thorough skin exam
FORMULA WRITING - Then, we write a custom herbal formula to address both your symptoms and the root diagnosis.
REGULAR FOLLOW-UP- In person or virtual - We hold quick formal check-ins every 2 weeks. Skin conditions are often healed through innovation, so we change formula ingredients about every 2 weeks as well.
CONSISTENT IMAGING - We track progress and derive case information from pictures of your skin. We take pictures during intake and in-person follow-ups. And, we will ask for pictures from you during virtual visits.
In addition to the core herbal formula treatments we can also customize a topical skincare strategy. This incorporates light therapy, acupuncture, moxibustion, and high-quality topicals.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Treatment length depends on a number of factors: specific skin concern, length of time you’ve had it, severity, and any underlying health concerns. We ask that all Skin Clinic patients have the ability & willingness to undergo 9 months of treatment. Some people complete treatment altogether within 9 months. Others may require another 6-9 month round for skin to clear and gain stability.
-
We consider an initial course of treatment 9 months. Chinese medicine aims to address not just symptoms of skin disease (itching, scaling, etc) but also address what is causing this condition within your body. Skin fragility, infection, and inflammation almost always begin with an internal imbalance. Our role is to correctly identify and treat the deepest dysfunction. Rebalancing internal patterns takes time. The nature of skin disease also plays a part in treatment length, as typical skin cell turnover is about a month.
-
We meet with patients every 2 weeks. As treatment progresses we may be able to move to monthly or even less frequent check-ins.
-
We hope to meet you in person at least for the initial intake. If this is not possible, we are able to treat you on a 100% tele-health basis.
-
To be on the safe side and to allow for responsible budgeting we offer this medium-to-high complexity case cost estimate:
9 months of treatment will cost about $4,200
1 intake x $200 = $200
17 follow up treatments x $80 = $1360
18 custom formulas x $150 = $2700
Each case is individual. Many people find that by month 6 they need less formula changes and more time in between check-ins. This will decrease overall cost.
-
The herbal formulas are the heart of Skin Clinic treatments.
Formula pricing reflects the time it takes to grow, harvest, process, and ship the herbs in your formula from Asia to North America.
The cost also reflects herb quality. We order from Kamwo, a family-run herbal pharmacy with stringent quality standards in NYC’s Chinatown.
-
We prescribe herbal granules. You will dissolve a spoonful into about mug of hot water twice a day.
