The Skin Clinic at Pearl was founded in 2024. It is led by Siân Sheppard, who has treated skin concerns with success since the outset of the clinic. She is a member of the International TCM Dermatology Association (ITCMDA), and a graduate of the TCM Diploma Course in Chinese Medicine Dermatology.

The Skin Clinic offers the benefits of Chinese medicine in the treatment of both common and uncommon diseases of the skin - from effects of aging to Eczema. Many acute and chronic disorders can be significantly helped and resolved by the correct use of Chinese herbs, as well as various acupuncture and topical treatments.

Chinese medical techniques have been successfully used in East Asia for thousands of years to treat skin disease. Common signs of aging were prevented by herbal and diet therapy, moxibustion, and manual techniques like facial gua sha and qi gong. Feng shui was used to assure flow of beneficial energies throughout the home, one's seat of healing. Astrology was consulted to understand the strength of natural forces throughout the year, impacting individual health.

Health is an integrated part of life. The wide range of medical techniques used within Chinese medicine reflects the centrality of health and well-being to the human experience. Skin is often overlooked when we discuss health. But if you have a skin condition, then you know that sometimes it is difficult to think about anything else.

Currently, the most effective treatment of skin disease results from a similar mixture of techniques. Of these approaches, herbal therapy is a foundational aspect of treatment. Enrolling in the skin clinic looks like drinking a small cup of herbs every day for at least 6 months, and a weekly-to-monthly consult for the same length of time.

Acupuncture and assorted manual therapies are considered adjunctive, and can be added to many consults for a reduced rate.
